    AWARENESS AND USE OF E-RESOURCES AMONG SOCIAL SCIENTISTS OF ALAGAPPA UNIVERSITY AND ITS AFFILIATED COLLEGES

    Library and information centres are playing a crucial role in the growth and development of the nation directly/indirectly by providing better services to the members of the society. Social Scientists have been respected for their role models, setting the tone and lifting the quality of public life by the professional and personal integrity, penetrating intellect, dedication to public causes, philanthropic disposition and commitment to public service. Electronic resources have become the vital part of human life in the 21st century. A large portion of social scientists of Alagappa University and its affiliated colleges are aware about the e-resources, but they do not know all its techniques and applications. Further, large Social Scientists of the Alagappa University and its affiliated colleges still have no knowledge about the e-resources and related applications. The study shows that the age wise respondents’ frequency of visit to the institution library. It could be noted that out of the total 1230 respondents, 40.31 percent of them make daily library visit. In this study, 27.40 percent of them make library visit thrice a week and majority of the respondents in the age group 46-50 years make library visit thrice a week. The study also shows that the status wise respondents’ frequency of library visits. It could be noted that majority of the faculty respondents (60.25%) make library visit daily. The gender wise respondents’ frequency of library visits. It could be noted that majority of the male respondents (41.08%) make library visit daily

The word Medical Tourism was coined when people started looking outside west for cheaper medical treatment with international quality. It can be broadly defined as provision of \u27cost effective\u27 private medical care in collaboration with the tourism industry for patients needing surgical care and other forms. Kerala has become one of the leading Medical Tourism destinations of India and gained international attention for health tourism and is becoming a popular health tourism hub. There are a number of speciality hospitals in Kerala that offer specialized care for complex medical conditions. Patients from all over the world are becoming medical tourist in Kerala for low cost and health restorative alternative treatments. Speciality hospitals in Kerala are at the forefront of Medical Tourism. Many of the hospitals offer a complete package that includes consultancy with a medical specialist, diagnosis, appropriative medical treatment, pre and post operative care etc. The quality of health care offered by the doctors, nurses and support staff, makes Medical Tourism in Kerala the preferred choice of patients seeking healthcare solutions in World. Kerala has an excellent track record in the fields of tourism and health care. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has declared 2006-2007 as Medical Tourism Year in Kerala and they organized an International conference and exhibition on Health tourism in 2013 at Kochi, Kerala. According to the CII-Mc Kinsy report Medical Tourism industry in Kerala is expected to be worth $4 billion by 2017. Confederation of Indian Industry along with Kerala Government is organizing an International Conference on Health Tourism 2015 at Le Meridian, Kochi, Ernakulam on 30-31of October 2015. The event aims to promote Kerala as the hub for Medical Tourism in the country by 2020. The competitiveness of Kerala in health tourism is enhanced by the attractiveness of the alternative systems of medicine, especially ayurveda, for the foreign tourists. Kerala is also known as land of Ayurveda for its traditional medicines which aim at providing rejuvenation, longevity and relaxation to stressed and strained. More over Kerala has a potential to attract tourists around the world due to its cultural diversity, perfect beaches and fabulous cuisine mixed with a pinch of oriental mysticism.     Information Search Strategies among LIS Professionals: A Case Study of Selected Institutions in India

    This study examined Information Search Strategies employed by Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals of selected institutions in India for research. Questionnaire was used as the main instrument for the gathering of data. Data collected were analyzed using simple frequency tables and mean. Search specialists can be found in libraries of all kinds, but are located especially in college and university libraries and in the information centre and other special libraries associated with business and industrial organizations, law firms and medical establishments. Some search specialists are freelance entrepreneurs, in business for themselves and actively marketing their services to special user populations. clients of online information retrieval search specialists include undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in academic libraries, and scientists, engineers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, and many others using special libraries and information centres to help satisfy their information needs. The study revealed that most of the respondents belonging to various educational qualifications prefer ‘their library catalogue’, except the respondents belonging to ‘UG in LIS’ qualification. Most of the respondents (44.4%) belonging to ‘UG in LIS’ qualification prefer ‘open access databases’ to seek needed information, followed by ‘their library catalogue’ (22.2%). The findings of such study would put light on the important data and insight into the current state of practices of LIS professionals and their understanding about information searching process on internet. The outcome and suggestions of the study would be beneficial for them to take appropriate measures to improve their information search strategy skills

    Research Output of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research: A Scientometric Study

    This paper deals with the analysis of research output of ICAR- Indian Institute of Horticulture, Bangalore (ICAR-IIHR) during 1989 to 2018 appeared in web of science database. It attempts to analyze the growth and development of research activity of ICAR-IIHR as reflected in publications output in web of science database. Data for a study is total of 1095 have been downloaded and analyzed according to objectives. The study reveals that the growth of literature follows the exponential growth pattern, journal articles are the most published form of literature (90.13%), Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences followed by Current Science are top journals, United States and Horticultural experiment Station are top collaborating country and institutions. The highly productive subject areas are Agriculture and Plant Sciences .Collaborating authorship pattern analysis shows that degree of collaboration (90%) significantly high. Overall, the paper presents an informed account of ICAR-IIHR’s research performance

    Seed Technology Research Output: A Scientometric Analysis on SCOPUS Database

    . The study analyses the seed technology research publications during 2008-2017 based on the Scopus database. The objective of the study was to perform a scientometric analysis of all seed technology research publication. Data for a study is total of 8576 have been downloaded and analyzed according to objectives. The study reveals that the growth of literature follows the liner growth pattern, journal articles are the most published form of literature (73.83%), International Journal Of Food Science and Technology followed by Nongye Gongcheng Xuebao Transactions Of The Chinese Society Of Agricultural Engineering are top journals, China and Chinese Academy of Sciences are top research contributing country and institution. The highly productive subject areas are Agricultural and Biological Sciences .Collaborating authorship pattern analysis shows that degree of collaboration (92%) significantly high. Overall, the paper presents an informed account of seed technology research performance

    Usage of Electronic Resources among Ophthalmologists

    The results of the study show that the respondents have average level of e-resources usage skills, particularly on awareness about many available e-resources. The variables of the respondents namely gender, age groups, designations, specialisations and the type of institutions were significantly influencing their e-resource usage skills and its dimensions. Frequency of access is daily among the respondents belonging to below 35 years age group. Most of the respondents use open access journals, whilst few have individual subscription to e-Journals. Most of the respondents belonging to Government and private/trust institutions access 1 to 3 e-journals only. Smart phones/ tablets are the widely used devices to access e-resources among ophthalmologists, followed by laptops. The researcher suggested conducting orientation and information literacy programs in order to eradicate lack of awareness. Providing supporting facilities for access, Selective Dissemination of Information and identifying the problems before rectifying are the notable aspects suggested by the researcher. The researcher also insists on the role of libraries and ophthalmology associations regarding the effective usage of electronic and online resources

    An Assessment of User Information Needs in the District Central Libraries at Tamil Nadu, India

    The study shows that a majority of the respondents belonged to male (59.08%) category whereas the remaining belonged to female (40.92%) category ,Majority of the respondents in this survey were married 354 (56.37%) whereas the remaining respondents were 274 (43.63%) unmarried who belonged to the category of students or younger generation., The study reveals that majority of the respondents i.e. 144 (22.93 %) were from the age group of up to 25 years and very few respondents i.e. 56 (8.92%) belonged to the age group of 66 and above, The survey finding reveals that majority of the respondents were bachelor’s degree holders 162 (25.80%) and very few respondents were qualified in Technical and other fields 84 (13.38%).The study reveals that the majority of the respondents were from the student community 156 (24.84 %) which was followed by the retired person 109 (17.36 %), unemployed youth 107 (17.04 %), employee in private sector 104 (16.56 %) and employee in government sector 80 (12.74 %). The findings reveal that majority of the respondents 255 (40.61%) were getting a monthly income of Rs. 5001-10,000 whereas few respondents 71(11.31%) were getting a monthly income of below Rs.3, 000.The findings reveal that majority of the respondents 479 (76.27%) are the member of public library. Out of 76.27 percentages, male respondents contributed 47.29% and female respondents contributed 28.98 % to this study. Smaller percentage of respondents 149 (23.73%) who belonged to the non member category also contributed to this study. It is understood that out of 628 respondents, the majority of them 63.2% are visiting the library more than twice in a week and few respondents are visiting the library once in a month. It is understood that majority of the respondents spent one to two hours of time in the library and few respondents spent more than three hours of time in the library, Majority of the respondents i.e. 229 (36.46 %) prefer to visit the public library in the evening, Therefore, evening is most preferred and suitable time for the visit to the library
